Sari... Sari...
this is the sound made by the Evil Spirit living on top of the mountain when he eats human beings, as it is believed by the Ye'kuana Indians.

Each year, we plan an Expedition to the world's remotest corners, to allow interested individuals to see what is left of still pure and untouched areas of our planet.

We believe that if this activity is done in a responsible manner, we can help develop the profound respect that we have here at NFAT for this original nature...

Last year we planned to ascend the Sarisariñama by its Northern side, to have a close look at the "simas", these mysterious, perfectly circular holes 350 meters diameter and 350 meters deep (1,000 feet diameter by 1,000 feet deep) on top of the mountain. This expedition had to be cancelled for low turn-out and th esad Sept. 11 events in New York.

This expedition involves flying (ourselves and our gear) to the closest Indian village that has a landing strip, then sailing by Indian dugouts down and upriver, sometimes portaging our gear across rapids, visiting Indians communities on the way, then hiking and climbing (non-technical) the tepuy up to the border of the simas, having a look, taking a few pictures and heading back to our pickup point the same way we came.

Time planned, 2 weeks, but can be extended...

We are planning a departure for the end of the year 2002

What to expect:

see one of the last virgin spot on the planet, spectacular sightseeings, hot weather, rain and humidity, bugs, sleep in hammocks in Indian communities or in improvised campsites in the jungle. Intense physical activities, experience of a lifetime...

In exchange for this unique opportunity, we require utmost respect for the Indian communities that we will come across, most of them have had no contact whatsoever with tourists, like the Sanemas, cousins to the Yanomamis. NO pictures will be allowed in the Ye'kuana communities, leave their souls alone.
